چکیده

Isotopic compos•tien and concentration of barium in six stone meteorites and the silicate inclusions of two iron meteorites and three terrestrial samples were measured by use of a 'double spike' isotopic dilution technique in order to correct for laboratory fractionation. Any differences between the abundances of the isotopes in meteoritic and terrestrial Ba were found to be less than 0.1% for all isotopes. The per cent abundances of Ba found in our work for Ba '•s, Ba •, Ba•% Ba '•, Ba TM, Ba •', and Ba '•ø are 71.699, 11.232, 7.853, 6.592, 2.417, 0.1012, and 0.1058, respectively. Because of the higher precision, these abundances should replace the currently accepted values. These results show the variations in the Ba isotopes reported by S. Umemoto (1962) to be unsubstantiated.

The Relative Isotopic Abundance of K 4ø in Terrestrial and Meteoritic Samples

Fowler, Greenstein, and Hoyle have proposed that the inner solar system was heavily irradiated during its formation. A consequence of this proposal is that sizable differences in meteoritic and terrestrial K'3⁄4K 'ø ratios are possible if the fraction of material which was irradiated was different in the two cases. The isotopic composition of potassium was measured by mass spectrometry for nine...

Effects of Desert Weathering on Meteoritic Hydrogen Isotope Systematics: Insights from Tissint

Introduction: The hydrogen isotopic composition of meteorites and their components can provide insights into the source of water on their parent bodies and secondary processes that may have occurred on these bodies. As such, determining the indigenous D/H ratio of meteorites and their constituent phases is crucial. Nonetheless, terrestrial weathering can affect many of the properties of meteori...

Oxygen isotope composition of the primitive Achondrites

Introduction: Primitive achondrites are meteorites with near-chondritic bulk compositions and nonchondritic textures [1]. They are thought to be either highly metamorphosed chondrites, or residues formed by low degrees of partial melting [1]. They thus record the conditions at the onset of asteroidal melting and form an important link between chondrites and the extensively melted achondrites (i...

Petrology and geochemistry of whole rock of Shahdad meteorites

In this study, meteorite pieces, with total weight of 259 grams, have been studied which is not listed in the world bulletin of meteorites. In order to classify these samples, after preparing microscopic thin sections and performing accurate petrography, using geochemical data of the major elements and trace elements of whole rock, obtained from XRF and ICPMS methods in Zarazma company’s labora...

HIGH PRECISION IRON ISOTOPIC ANALYZES OF METEORITES AND TERRESTRIAL ROCKS: Fe DISTRIBUTION AND MASS FRACTIONATION LAWS

Introduction: High precision iron isotopic analyzes have proven useful for investigating the distribution of Fe in the protoplanetary disk (Fe is a shortlived isotope that decays into Ni with t1/2=1.49 My) [1]. This stems from the fact that Fe, the most neutron-rich stable isotope of iron is produced together with Fe in AGB-stars and supernovae by neutron capture reactions. The lighter isotopes...
